Tiny Updates, Major Impact
July 12- July 18, 2026- Week 30
Hackers Targeting WordPress bugs, leaving million of websites at risk
Hackers are targeting websites running older versions of WordPress, the popular blogging software, reported by several cybersecurity firms. As of July 20th, one first estimates tens of millions of WordPress websites are vulnerable.
Last week, WordPress patched two security flaws, urging users that run their software to update “Immediately,” but because of the severity of the issue, WordPress forced updates when possible. Per an article on Security Week, cybersecurity companies Patchstack, Hexastrike, and WatchTowr warned that hackers were exploiting the vulnerabilities, taking over websites running versions 6.9.0 through 6.9.4 and 7.0.0 to 7.0.1.
Cybersecurity risks posed by over-the-air tech in autos has analysts concerned
Speaking of cycbersecurity risks, updating vehicle systems using over-the-air technology, making it more susceptible to cyberattacks. Many analysts are urging more intervention in the sector.
OTA technology is wireless tech that delivers new software, firmware, fixed, and data to internet-connected devices. It’s quick and cost efficient to manage systems on vehicles versus dealing with issues by recall or performing them while doing routing maintenance.
Not only are data concerns involved, but the potential for foreign actors to sabotage control of a moving vehicle in countries such as Norway, Denmark, and Britain have all expressed concerns. The American Enterprise Institute released a report this past May, stating foreign intelligence would try to use automotive data to the maximum extent. Providing the example that media sources reported Israeli intelligence hacked Iranian traffic cameras to track the movement of Iranian leaders before striking them.
Cybersecurity experts are calling for governments and corporations to be aware of these risks and be held accountable for how these systems are applied.
Samsung expected to make a massive profit in the AI memory craze
According to Reuters, Samsung will post a major profit increase in the second quarter this year, in comparison to last year, which is a $3 billion increase in Q2 of 2025. The increased demand for memory chips has skyrocketed, and stock prices for companies in the chip race such as Micron and Hynix have increased dramatically. Samsung, being the largest chip maker in the world, Samsung will also profit from this.
The memory shortage has helped chip makers secure lucrative deals and increased profits while hurting tech consumers in the pocket. Apple announced increase prices in their products as well as Playstation, the Switch, and other tech gadgets will suffer the same fate.
